The original Fuji ones are relatively OK in terms of size and protection offered. But they are plastic, flimsy, you need force to attach/detach them... I was wondering whether anyone has laid their hands on quality metal hoods that emulate the original Fujis but are manufactured to a higher standard.

WA to Tele - either no protection from flare at the long end or vignette at the wide end. For longer lenses you can use metal parallel hoods of various length, which is what I do unless space in my bag is at a premium, then the reversible hoods take up less space and do a decent job. Metal screw-in hoods (complete with a hood cap) are fine if you have space to keep them attached while in your bag.
