..Thanks for sharing this finding, Gyrv37!

..she's just being honest with her experiences, hope she'll get another one, as she says there are many positive things about the SX70 that she likes..

..Cheers..

I wonder if there are batches of SX70 cameras, from certain time periods or different assembly lines, that have this re-focusing after focus-lock flaw that she and others have described? I and many others had a bad experience in 2006, with the Sony H5. After using it for a week, the focus-lock, after half-pressing the shutter, stopped working. I returned it to a dealer and got another one, but the same thing happened with two more of them, so I took a refund and moved on. I'd had to do quite a lot of explaining and demonstrating to the staff at Best Buy, to get them to understand that there was a problem. I wonder what happened to those returned cameras?

Thousands of people around the world, reported the same problem. And how many less-experienced people never noticed and just kept using them? Sony replaced the shutter assemblies of those under warranty, but never acknowledged that there was a flaw. The majority of them didn't have the problem and some are still being used today. Since all three I got from that dealer were faulty, obviously they came from the same production batch. We referred to it as the "Sudden Shutter-Death Syndrome". It was analyzed (not by Sony) as being due to some faulty electronic components in the shutter assembly.

It was a shame, because I really liked the H5. It took nice pictures at 8-MP, although Sony hadn't yet figured-out how to make a good video autofocus system for that type of camera. I used an older camera for several months, until the Canon S5 was available and I really liked it. It had the best SD video I've ever seen and the best built-in mikes. It still works, if I ever needed a backup camera.
