Fuji Jpeg Film Emulation Recipes

Yes, the guy who send the photos can send the settings also.

Great overview!

If you won't mind me asking, is it possible to save and load presets on the X-T3?
With this I mean that I will be able to store several presets with the settings mentioned in the Excel and quickly switch between them?

Not 100% for color ones, as wb shifts are not saved in custom settings. But with careful inspection you can tell and remember where colours for the simulations lie.

you can save wb shift in custom wb preset but you will have to set the custom white balance manually each time the light changes.

the B&W presets work great as is. The Tri-x and the HP-5 are set on my camera.

However if you shoot jpeg + raw, the fuji x-raw converter can convert your raw to any of these settings later on. Just save these as presets for x-raw converter. That way you can control the dark room process and dial in and fine tune the look.

As mentioned, there's no way to store WB settings. You can store everything else as a preset, though. There are 7 preset slots to store presets in and you can switch between them easily using the Q button. Look at the manual for "edit/save custom settings".

I am building a Spreadsheet/Database for different Film Emulation Recipes for Jpegs.

The Google Docs SpreadSheet :

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VdpFEHIq3unspOSBEGa515GfcsZbBRG4f3UokZ0BJ1Q/edit?usp=sharing

The Suggested Name is based on the fact that FUJI Cameras do not save/store the WB Shift parameters. So a Name "3R-2B chrome" means after selecting the preset shift your white balance R by +3 and Blue by -2.

I have given due credit to these recipe creators as well as a link to their website./blogs.

If you have some special recipe to share please provide in this thread I will add them to the database. (a url with the recipe preview would be useful) .

The List is not yet complete and I will add more recipes to it over time.
Thanks for sharing this info.

I wonder how I should interprete “+2/3 Exposure Compensation?” as suggested in the individual recipe.
FYI, I take meter reading based on the ETTR concept, in other words I take the exposure value just before highlight blinkies appear as my base exposure. My workflow demands a conflicting scenario, i.e. (1) maximum data acquisition at the time of capture for conventional Raw editing, and (2) I don’t want to give up Fuji-native JPEG processing using X RAW STUDIO.

Thanks,
Don

C1 "Soft" Film Simulation = E, DR 400, Color +2
Low-contrast / low-saturation colour negative film simulation; useful for interior shots.

C2 "Portrait" Film Simulation = NH, DR Priority AUTO
Medium-contrast / medium-saturation colour negative film simulation; especially suited to portraiture.

C3 "B&W Portrait" Film Simulation = AG, DR Priority AUTO
Medium-contrast black & white negative film simulation with green filter; especially suited to portraiture.

C4 "Moriyama" Film Simulation = BR, DR 100, Shadow Tone = +4, Highlight Tone = +2, Grain effect = Strong
Very high-contrast, grainy black & white film simulation with red filter; reminiscent of Daido Moriyama´s style.

C5 "Fujichrome" Film Simulation = S, DR AUTO
Medium-contrast / medium-saturation slide film simulation; a good all-rounder for outdoor photography.

C6 "McCurry" Film Simulation = V, DR AUTO, Grain effect = Strong
High-contrast / high-saturation grainy slide film simulation; reminiscent of Steve McCurry´s style.

C7 "Nelson" Film Simulation = CC, DR AUTO, Highlight Tone = +1, Color = -1, Grain effect = Weak
High-contrast / low-saturation slightly grainy slide film simulation; reminiscent of Jimmy Nelson's style.

Great Topic :).

It's a pity that you can't save the white balance shifts in camera.

Does anyone know how to remove recipes in RAW studio?
You can save WB shifts, it's just specific to each recipe.

When building a new recipe adjust the WB in the regular white balance adjustment in the shooting menu, then build the custom setting and save the white balance you just set.

You have to change your current white balance via for each preset. Hope this helps!

I'm afraid its not. WB shift is a a single global setting for each WB setting and not a per recipe (custom) setting. If you have different shifts for each custom setting that use the same WB setting (e.g. Auto) you will need to manually change the shift as you move between custom settings that use WB Auto.

However it is rumoured that the XPro3 does save the WB shift setting against each custom setting.

I would like to add my own spreadsheet as well. Not to knock on the original idea but I wanted something more usable on a daily basis.

I only used the recipes from Ritchie Roesch (https://fujixweekly.com/) for now. I made it this way so I can see one recipe at a glance without scrolling on my smartphone while out and about with my X100F. I set up my Q-Menu in the order of every setting from top to button in my document.

Because of the inability to save the WB shift I opted to not save any presets on my camera at all. I do slow photography so picking up my phone, punching in the settings via Q-Menu is a viable option for me.

I also added some descriptive remarks but they are not very precise. I also added a small randomizer in Coloumn A just for fun. Feel free to use and adapt. The link only shows a copy, I will not keep this file up to date.

Hello Atalwar,

A splendid notion! Thanks for posting.

I rather miss the cool colours of Ektachrome and Agfachrome. Might do a bit of experimenting myself, Alistair.

Some how I ended up on this page, I’m new to Fuji and their system, could you help with the button mapping different sims using the Q button? Thanks!

I have yet to dive into any custom button mapping.

Let me suggest that you might be a lot better off starting a new thread on this subject rather than placing your question in a random (and old) thread with little relevance to your question.

Thx All,

Been away from photography for many months now.
Nevertheless have updated the spreadsheet with some Recipes posted by Marco1974.

correct! have the same findings. WB is part of the presets and can be saved accordingly.

I do have different AUTO WB settings in my presets, there is no global setting.

Great work. Two suggestions:

1) can you list the source for these recipe? URL?

2) Please label Xtrans generation in the worksheet tab. Hopefully someone can provide some film simulations setting for xtrans 1, and 2.

Thank you.
Agree, I would like to know if the sim is for X-Trans III, X-Trans IV, etc. My X-E3 is X-Trans III and I do not wish to upgrade cameras just yet.

Hey

Above you say that WB is part of the presets and can be saved accordingly.

Do you mean "presets in X-Raw studio" or "in camera"?

I have the X-T3 and WB shift is applied to all presets or 'recipes' as it's called here. I'd love to apply WB shift to a particular custom color setting but that's impossible on the X-T3 in my understanding.

Thanks

I also think WB shift is global in the camera. Check it - to edit WBS you have to click right from WB option. When you save recipe, in its WB options there is no possibility to click right, so you can not adjust and save WBS.
