A Sigma 100-400 C + a TC-1401
4

This is my fourth Sigma telephoto lens (have a couple of Nikon, and have had Tamron, too), and by far a perfect mix of utility, low weight, sharpness in the long end, and affordable price (the TC-1401 is cheaper, but not much).

Let's take the bad things first: it is just f/6.3 in the long end, and it lacks a foot (Sigma does not make one, period).

The TC (that has been around a while), and the lens is close to a marriage made in heaven.

The missing foot I fixed by mounting a long ARCO rail (Wimberley make, but no matter what brand it is), secured loosely at its front with a hose clamp with Velcro under it, and a thicker piece of Velcro (both sides, so to speak), acting as a distance between the lens barrel and the rail, to prevent the rail locking the focusing ring.

Works great, no matter if I use my DSLRs, or my Nikon 1 with it!

Today's shots (with the TC), one of an open-bill stork discarded ( view partly blocked by the neighbor's roof). No crop, no PP:

Spotted dove sat on my roof a couple of second ...

turned and flew off!
