Using manual lens on SL2/200D

Howdy All,

I've got an SL2/200D and a 60D.  I've also got this toy lens, an Opteka 500mm fixed f-stop, manual focus lens that I play with sometimes.

On both cameras, I set the function dial to "M" and control exposure with the shutter speed and selected ISO.  Everything works normally on the 60D, but not on the SL2.

By that, I mean that I can use live view or view through the lens on the 60D and everything functions as expected.  I half-press shutter release, choose desired shutter speed and release.

On the SL2 however, live view works as expected, but using the view finder does not work.

I half-press the shutter release, select my desired shutter speed, then fully press the shutter release.  The mirror locks ups for about 20-30 seconds and no exposure is made.  Prior to releasing the shutter, the LCD menu shows the expected exposure information, such as my chosen shutter speed however.  WOrks fine in live view however.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers,

Dan K.
