Moving up to 70-200 f/4 L USM worth it?

Hello All!  Quick question:

The majority of my time behind my camera is my son's sports games (lacrosse and football - so all outside).  I'm merely a hobbyist, and using what I can afford, Rebel T5i and the 55-250 IS  STM, which gets me out to about 400mm with my crop-sensor.  I am considering a used f/4 non-IS version of the 70-200 (cuz it's in the budget).  I realize this lens has better glass, f/4 of course, and hoping it will allow for a little faster and better focusing?  My question then - are my photos going to be $400-$500 better?  Is this $$ better spent calibrating my monitor?

Any thoughts are appreciated!!!
