Lens weight introductions over time
2

An interesting article that graphs the weight of lenses against their introduction date:

TLDR:  Lenses are getting heavier.  Particularly for mirrorless and third-party lenses.

Looking at the Fuji-X graph, it's pretty easy to explain the increase in weight of new lenses in the last few years by the fact that Fuji has been pushing into higher-performance and specialty lenses as their lens lineup matures.  But judging by this forum (a self-selecting dataset, of course) we are buying them.  I certainly am, LOL.

Spencer does make one comment at the end that super-telephotos are actually getting lighter, due to new tech.

Not all that surprising from a Fuji-X perspective, but it's interesting to see the trend across the industry.
