Even my ancient Canon 500D is actually very light, ...

That's due to the body being plastic composite, mirror type pentaprism, etc.

... and make damm good shots vs FZ200 ...

as it should being the MUCH larger APS-C sensor size

... My wifes 7D is another story, it actually heavy, and feels bigger also

That's due to the 7D being a pro quality build APS-C DSLR with environmental sealing alloy body, all glass pentaprism, etc.
