Yeah, hands down it’s an improvement over the SL1 in just about every way. Plus it’s about the most economical option that buys you into this excellent 24 MP Dual Pixel sensor.

However you do still have to weigh its unique set of advantages and disadvantages against the other options... T7i, 77D, 80D, or even the latest generation of mirrorless (which is actually the route I went with the M5).  My own priority however was to go as small as possible (and still stay with this same sensor).

Many other DPReview members who have also upgraded from the venerable 18 MP sensor (which was Canon’s staple for so long) to this new one have reported the same gains. It’s been speculated by some that it might have to do with the finer nature of the noise, which responds better to processing. Whatever the case may be, it is very welcome!
