You should look at your photo archives and see how often you shot the 12-40 and 40-150 at f/2.8 compared with f/4 or slower. And look at the best of those f/2.8 images and think about whether f/4 would have been acceptable.

Not only the aperture, but the focal range as well. I'm not going on safari, but the 12-40 works for 85% of the landscape I do. I often carry just that lens for that reason. On some trips I add the 35-100 F2.8 and the 8mm FE. The choice is based on the particular mountain trip and topography. Of course, with Safari, 100mm may not be enough.

Definitely 100mm won’t be enough. That is why I have the PL 100-400.

I carry and use the 35-100 for particular mountain trips and when I expect it likely that I will see large fauna like Mountain goats, Bighorn Sheep, and Bears.

yes. For landscape photography, 2 lenses might be better, because you have time to change lenses, but for a safari or travel photography, the moment might pass before you get a chance to change lens.

The 12-100 is not too heavy for me to want to carry, but too large (as would be the 100-400) - but a safari would be different on the long end.

You should then be able to make an easier decision regarding the 12-100 F4 Pro
