The corner performance at 24mm isn't great, but then again, the lens design makes compromises. 24-100 f1.8-2.8 is very ambitious spec for its size and price. Sure, consistency across the frame seems better on sony's 24-70mm lens, but you lose reach and the newer models are twice the price of the Canon. If you consider specs, price, and quality, the Canon is competitive.

As was said, different people will have different standards. For many, IQ at 24mm will be fine. If you don't like the 24mm sharpness, start at 28mm. If you aren't satisfied with a lens that struggles under certain conditions, these large sensor/fast lens compacts may disappoint. Compare with, say, the Ricoh GR.

I had the Panasonic LX10/LX15, much better lens at 24mm then the Canon G7X II, but I had lost my camera, unfortunately, and looking for a replacement. I think I will buy the G7X II despite the fact that it is not a really 24mm... I will use it starting it at 28mm only, I prefer shooting a smartphone for panoramas or wide angle, image quality is much better.

By the way, the lens on the Panasonic has also its downsides, but overall it is better on the shared range. I like the longer range of the Canon, and that's why I was planing to buy it.
