Industry is speeding towards 8K. Why?

4K is already questionable. For me, its only usefulness is in computer monitors, for spreadsheet/programming work and photo editing/viewing. When I watch Youtube vids on my 4K monitors I usually downsize them to 1/4 the screen. I have a 4K TV but cannot tell the difference between 1080p and 4K content from where I sit. I think that is the norm for most people.

So with that in mind, why 8K? I am def curious to see how my photos look on an 8K monitor... but we barely have any 4K content to watch, and barring self proclaimed eye-resolution superheroes nobody can see the diff from 1080p to 4K. OK, maybe if you shoot a lot of video and crop a lot there's usefulness there. But what about the full frame? I can only see it making sense for movie theaters.
