Does anyone think the G7X III will be as good as the Sony RX100VI? Especially 4K video that is always crippled on Canon. I have the first version of G7X and was about to buy the RX100VI. I may wait if the G7X III is promising.
We just got an RX100va to compare to my original G7x. I will say, some of its features are pretty amazing- 24fps with autofocus, when it hits, is very impressive. The lens seems consistently sharp, the VF is neat (though I rarely use it), and it has some interesting multi-shot and slo-mo features.
That said, handling is fiddly, I miss the touch screen, and the menus and controls are pretty awful. For a true point and shoot, it seems extremely capable, but if you like to frequently use manual controls, I suggest trying it out in a store first if possible, especially taking a few dives into the menus. I am really surprised by some of the things you can't control in certain shooting modes. I could not for the life of me find an option to control how quickly ISO is increased in auto, for example, so if the camera did not detect that it was shooting our son and go into "kids mode", we got lots of shots at very low shutter speeds, so no matter how good the AF was, there was motion blur. That said, it does a generally good job of choosing the right shooting mode.
So far, it seems I prefer the g7x in most every way except autofocus performance. If Canon released a mk iii with really good PDAF performance, I would seriously consider it.
