Speedlite EL-100 on the M50

Just thought I'd write a quick note and mention that the Speedlite EL-100 isn't as much of a game changer as say new glass (which you can use in most scenarios), but has made a sizeable dent when I want to shoot slower apertures indoors, think group photos with lots of folks in em where say that 32mm f/1.4 is too shallow at f/1.4, but, shooting f/4 indoors in less than stellar lighting means like ISO6400 with a reasonable shutter, or really crappy lighting, or where I want to bump some shadows and have some fun.
Worth the $199? More or less, it occupies little space in the bag more importantly which the 270EX due to it's fixed design wasn't as appropriate, and couldn't both swivel and tilt.
Arguably the Godox TT350 is better value, but with my mixed experiences with the formerly mentioned 270EX II on the M3, I found it's responsiveness was so awful I wasn't going to mix third party with an M, and new one at that (M50) which third party results with newer Canon stuff is a mixed bag (Tamron, Sigma anyone?)
A speedlite is something you can't replace, the ability to add light when needed, but, natural lighting is always supreme. Now that I have a flash finally, I can say I didn't miss much as a photographer just needs to know when to add light (when to pull the speedlite out of the bag), not the other way around (when not to use a speedlite). Most of the time it's not necessary; either using the right glass, shooting the right exposure, using an onboard flash even, are arguably better choices. But, there's times an external flash is appropriate, either to make an indoor portrait even better (with that 32mm f/1.4) or correct for some truly poor lighting. There's a reason wedding photographers carry em, you have to deliver, speedlites permit you to deliver where the light is awful otherwise.
Now in the context of the M, I have to say smaller lighter flashes like the 270EX II, EL-100 and presumably the Godox TT350 are highly appropriate. I can highly recommend the EL-100 over the 270EX II though at the end of the day. It is a true successor between it's added ability to both tilt and swivel, and, is compact.
