Sorry I wasn't clearer. I have the Shutter AF ON and AF-L button configured for AF-ON and I have the focus selector to manual. Then I use the AF-L button to auto focus. If focus peaking is on it shows where the camera auto focused.
Even though the camera is set for manual focus the back AF-L will still auto focus. I didn't realize the camera would work like this until I started playing around with some of the settings. Now I could easily switch between shutter auto focus to back AF-L button auto focus to full manual focus by just changing the focus selector.
I know this was 2 months ago but I have to thank nuzzart for this tip.
I just returned from a job a with the X-T20 + 18-55mm and was a bit frustrated by having some photos misfocused... again, since it had already happened on a previous job, this time with a X-Pro2).
This may be a simple and elegant solution for this problem, I can see this will work for me. Not sure about the shutter speed effect on sharpness though, will have to test it sometime.
I really hope I can continue to use this lens since I know how good results it can give, back when I used a X-Pro1 it was flawless (as reported by various sources, it works great on contrast-AF cameras).
But it's unreliability on newer cameras is a killer for important jobs, I was even thinking on getting into another system just so I could use standard zooms without worries.
I find strange the apparent silence on Fuji about this widely reported problem, with all the stuff about Kaizen and making Fuji users happy with their equipment. Maybe time for a MkII of this lens? (but please don't make it super expensive or bigger/heavier).
Glad to hear this will work for you. Since I've switched to this approach I've been really happy with the 18-55mm lens.
