I haven't tried the 23mm f1.4, but had two 35mm 1.4 and also the 60mm 2.4, which belong to the same "batch".
I have the 23mm f2. I wouldn't exchange it for the 1.4 for 2 main reasons:
1 - Fast AF (i have a 5 year old kid, and they move fast, not standing sill for more than 1sec.)
2 - Size / weight ( i carry it daily in my work messenger bag (had the 27mm for that but sold it because i prefer the FOV of the 23mm)
I also consider the 1.4 versions to have a different rendition, which i personally like. I notice that with OOC jpegs in classic chrome or with Pro Neg Std. However, i shoot a lot in B&W with that lens (23mm), and that rendering is not so important.
That said, i sold my 50mm f2 (which was very good to be honest) and bought the 60mm 2.4 because i use this focal lenghts for portraits and those are in colour, which i prefer in the old lenses images.
All have pros and cons, you just have to choose the most suitable for your style on each focal lenght.
The 60mm is just a beauty. I got it because I found it very cheaply, and thought that I'd just try to replace it with a 50mm and sell it at a higher price than the 250 I got it for but man, it just took a few days using it and it's become by far my most used lens.
I agree. For me, the “trinity” is either the 16/1.4 or 18/2, the 35/1.4, and the 60/2.4. Or the Rokinon 12, the 23/1.4, and the 60. Focus is usually fast enough for me, if sometimes frustrating, they aren’t big (except the 16, this the “or”, and the 23/.4, but I bought it before the f/2 was available and won’t sidegrade), they are up to 2 stops faster than any zoom, each is smaller and lighter than a zoom (and thus easier to handle on camera), and they give me shots I like. To each his own.
