Advice on Speedlites on the M? Speedlite EL-100, 270EX II for M?

I'm not much of a flash person, I prefer natural light. However, if I am going to use a flash, I prefer to bounce it to amplify existing light, not drown out my shadows thus flattening the image.

Any thoughts about either, both, or why one makes more sense than another?

The EL-100 has horizontal and upward bounce, but is bigger. Not much heavier. About the same guide number and recycle time, probably due to the same power source (2xAA)

I'd previously loaned the 270EX II and found it to be pretty big on the M3 I had at the time, and the M3 did not take well to flashes. The time it took to meter was awful.

I presume things have improved with the newer M's. I really liked the built-in bounce flash of the M3, a shame the M5 and M50 has the silly default flash.

Once again not a flash guy, but I'd be a fool not to consider it as I've had some pretty remarkable success on my former 5DIII the times I've loaned 430's and 600's for family and friends weddings. I'm effectively a novice with some experience for purposes of this discussion and am open to should I even have a flash, etc etc.

I do prefer to stay light and compact obviously. I'm uncomfortable with spending more than $200 for purposes of discussion here.

Any thoughts from the peanut gallery about experiences with Speedlites on the M? Particularly newer M's IE M5/6/50?
