Re: Considering Quattro H concerned about SA lenses

Given that Canon is a conservative company and that the stigma of the focus issues plaguing the 1DIII (not the 1DsIII) is still there, I do not foresee Canon dumping their 1D series DSLR product line anytime soon. I would be surprised if a 1D equivalent R series camera is available for purchase by the 2020 Olympics, but I bet a few test beds will be there.
The Nikon pro series would likely follow the same path.
The Sigma camera will be available next year, probably introduced as a non-working mock-up at the upcoming show in Japan in a few weeks. I'm guessing it will be made available for early adopters by Christmas next year.
As far as the Canon 1Dx Mk II is concerned, I believe that is the last of the Canon pro level DSLR bodies. The next Canon pro level body will be a mirrorless body, and it will come in 2019. It will be a Nikon Z7 beater, but Nikon might have their Z1 or Z9 (or whatever they decide to call it) out by the 2020 Olympics. Canon might even have a new 70-200mm f2.8 IS in R mount and a 300mm f2.8 in R mount by that time. I don't doubt they might even have a 400mm f2.8 IS in R mount too. I think they'll leave the longer lenses to people who want to use the adapter. Nikon will basically follow suit.
Believe it or not, I think Canon will quickly become the leader in mirrorless . . . yes, over Sony. Canon is a juggernaut. They are a bigger company than Sony, and far bigger than Nikon. When they get tooled up for the mirrorless war, they will do their best, which means lots of new mirrorless cameras will be coming from Canon in 2019 and 2020. Lots of new lenses will be coming from them too. I think that for the past two or three years they have been getting ready for this, and we're going to see a camera war like we've never seen before. 2018 is just the beginning.
