hi

i bought the Panasonic 42.5 - 1.7 lens a couple of months ago and I just can’t seem to get the shots I want. I am a complete beginner. I use my camera for short videos in nature with me as the subject playing musical Instruments... etc

my question is why does the lens zoom in so much ? I also use a canon g7x for vlogging and this frames the shot just fine I have also noticed that the Panasonic seems too fatten me up along with other subjects - where I look thinner on the g7x. Without stating the obvious of me loosing weight can someone explain why this lens does that so I know what to not buy next.

i have to stand several steps away to get the same shot with the Panasonic as it zooms In so much which I think is adding to the fattening of subjects

any advice would be great thanks !

Just to clarify, this lens does not "zoom" It is what is called a "prime" or "fixed" lens. It only has one focal length. The G7X does have "zoom" where you can change the focal length, getting closer or further.

The 42.5mm focal length is referred to as "moderate telephoto" or "classic portrait length" in m43 and frankly is one of the more ACCURATE focal lengths you can use for a subject. Sorry.

The rest of the posts are helpful to read through.

You should perhaps consider a Panasonic 20mm 1.7 or 15mm 1.7 if you want something a bit wider angle.
