Can't really be any different from what Canon is doing with an R to EF adapter, without the control ring.

Struggling to understand because I've never owned a Canon ILC, but here it quotes RF as 20mm mirrorless and EF as 44mm.

In other words, are you saying that a mirror-less mount lens can be fitted onto a DSLR camera "with a small adapter"?

Well, reading this , I see that "what Canon is doing with an R to EF adapter" is described back-asswards, in that 'R to EF' means R-camera to EF-lens.

Which does not prove that a Sigma SA-mount DSLR camera can be fitted with any future Sigma L lens which, by definition, is designed for a mirror-less camera with it's 20mm registration distance.
