The GX1/GX7 was when Panasonic got it right. To this day, I want to point blame to need it.

Well the Jury is in when it comes to Street Photography, where most use a Rangefinder, or Styled like one. No one is using a flippy screen to take low or high angle shots. A titlable screen is much more discreet. Protecting the screen is a waste of time and another step in losing the shot.

?

This is oversimplified and too broad of a statement. Street photographers also shoot vertically, at least most of them do. And screen protection is not a waste of time. Outside the fact that nobody shoots instantaneous all the time, having the OPTION to protect the screen is always welcome

I use it, wish my X-E3 had it, love that my Z6 has it. My XT1/2 has it and gets use. My G5 has a flippy screen and is only used when shooting video and on a tripod.

Welll because YOUonly use it that way does not mean everyone else does

screens has its use for video and vlogging. But shooting Street? No, far from it.

Again speaking for yourself. This is assuming street photography is ONLY for horizontal shots. This is obviously not the case

I have been taking vertical shots for decades without an FAS. My tilt screen cameras such as the E-M10II, etc can easily take vertical photos.
