Re: Sigma Cameras:
Sigma SD1M (Merrill) DSLR vs. Sigma SD Quattro Mirrorless
Which to keep - your suggestions - thoughts - comments?_______________________________________
Hello:
This is mostly generalized conversation starter type of thread.
I have both of the above mentioned Sigma cameras:
1.) Sigma SD1M (Merrill) DSLR
2.) Sigma SD Quattro Mirrorless
I also have another camera system - Fuji Mirrorless.
I have been debating on selling one of the Sigma cameras, to help raise funds for (towards) - Fuji X mount lenses I would like.
If you had both - and were to consider - parting with one, just curious (I understand, this is - would be a personal decision / choice on my part), which would you part with, and why?
I might be “over-looking” some particular Pros and Cons of either camera, perhaps your comments (contributions) might add to my thought process - ideas I might have not thought of and/or actually considered?
Thanks for your time, comments, etc.
Have a nice day -
Ed

Ed I would sell the SD1 Merrill, purely because you will have less invested. Sigma sells refurbished models of that camera now with a lens for $900, but you can get a brand new SD Quattro for less than that, so it's likely you could get about $100 more for the SD1 Merrill on the used market. I might be wrong, but that's my thinking. You COULD sell them both, and wait for the new one to come on the market . . . unless you think you'd miss having at least one of them in that few months that you'd have to wait . . . and then there's the high probability that the new one will set you back more than $2,000. I've considered this myself, but I like the SD1 Merrill so much that I can't let it go, and I love the SD Quattro H so much that I don't know if I could ever let it go for any reason. It's THAT good . . . and I have no idea how long it will be before I can get my hands on a full-frame Sigma camera.
I have to test the SD Quattro H against the Nikon D810 for a few months before I make any decisions anyway. I'm sure I will love the Nikon, but I don't see how I could prefer its output for landscapes more than the photos I get from the SD Quattro H. Maybe dynamic range will play a big part, but I doubt it. We'll see. First I have to get a good lens for the Nikon. I'm thinking about getting a 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 VR. It's apparently very sharp and has a longer zoom range than the 24-70, while selling for much less. It'll be a while before I can get anything though, because Christmas is here, and I have some other expenses.
Good luck with your decision.
