Why moon shots?

Sorry, but I don't get why superzoom cameras need to photograph the moon in tests. What does it prove? Am I missing something? Moon shots all look the same and isn't the old "brick wall" better or at least good enough? I suspect originally it was something special to see the craters of the Moon with a camera lens, but not any more, right?
