Just spent the past 2 hours "pixel peeping" Fuji S5 Photos on Flickr. I do notice a lot of them either a) are over-sharpened or b) blurry close up, especially in the corners. Granted it is "only" a 6MP output (interpolated to 12?), but I am spoiled with my D5500 24MP with such Lenses as the Sigma 150-600 and 70-300. Nevertheless, about to pull the trigger, it's in my Basket... the fact it takes Nikon Lenses is a godsend!

But I just want to make sure, of course Color Rendition is this Camera's "selling point", but Image Quality is of equal importance. Are there are samples I can find that show Detail (not overly sharpened, straight out of camera or using the supplied RAW processor)?

Here you go... 12MP output as rendered SOOC and via conversion by Fuji Hyper Utility.

I use sharp lenses with my S5 Pro so set my sharpening to "standard" in camera. Overdriving sharpening can lead to artifacts on the S5 more than anything else. Also, there's no worries with blurry corners if they are in the focal plane. Here focus was on the house across the street so we can see the detail retained in the branches of the large red tree. As a result the palms and car to the front right will naturally be outside the DOF.

In the RAW conversion I opted to clip less of the shadows but you can basically see how darn good the SOOC jpeg engine is. There's hardly any improvement to be had via RAW.
