All of the Step-up rings came from China and none would seat properly on the threads of the lens. They'd just keep turning and turning without locking down hard on the lens. We have a theory that the same cutting dies were used for these step rings, regardless of the sellers. Additionally I had mounted 5 different filters directly on the lens without any issues

I just had mine replaced under warranty (it stopped locking focus). FYI, they do not repair this lens, only replace it with a “new or refurbished item” (and there is no way to tell which).  The replacement exhibits the exact same behavior with the step up rings. I even sent along my Fotodiox step-up ring. I was told that the service center did not support non-canon accessories and I should buy the one canon does not sell.

So, I think it’s fair to say that all of them will have this issue with step up rings.
