I do not think that even they know where they will go in the near future. They are playing a double game now and want to see where the wind will blow. CR posted some rumors indicating that.

Before they have a competent sports R camera, the big whites will be EF.

The big hurdle is the sensors. IMO Canon should throw in the towel and just partner with Samsung. For whatever reason their sensor fab cannot hang with Sony. They need that Once they get that in order the lenses are w/e. If Canon isn't #1 in lenses it's a very close #2

I would take a Canon sensor (with the CFA) to a Sony one any day. In fact, this is what I have done. Nikon manage to mitigate some of the Sony problems somehow but I am still not sold on their colors and it seems that their on-sensor AF is still in infancy.

Let's say there were two versions of the R: one as is, the other with the Z6 sensor and IBIS (also the Z6 AF, because using the Sony sensor wouldn't have DPAF). Which version of the R do you think would sell more?

I do not consider IBIS to be part of the sensor.

I think the reason that the Z6 and Z7 have IBIS is because Sony sold Nikon the sensor along with the IBIS assembly as a unit.  That is, if Nikon had wanted the sensor only, I think it would have ended up costing them the same amount,

But since you asked - the IBIS version will sell more, even if they put the 6D2 sensor in it.

Honestly, I don't see why Canon doesn't do it, aside from pure pride -- I can't imagine it's a profitability issue.  It's not like they couldn't continue to develop their own sensors, although they should definitely team up with Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic, or someone in doing so.
