I do not think that even they know where they will go in the near future. They are playing a double game now and want to see where the wind will blow. CR posted some rumors indicating that.

Before they have a competent sports R camera, the big whites will be EF.

The big hurdle is the sensors. IMO Canon should throw in the towel and just partner with Samsung. For whatever reason their sensor fab cannot hang with Sony. They need that Once they get that in order the lenses are w/e. If Canon isn't #1 in lenses it's a very close #2

I would take a Canon sensor (with the CFA) to a Sony one any day. In fact, this is what I have done. Nikon manage to mitigate some of the Sony problems somehow but I am still not sold on their colors and it seems that their on-sensor AF is still in infancy.

Colors are subjective... I've never had a problem with Sony colors but I'm not that particular. My monitor is not even calibrated.

Things like DPAF speed and 4K/8K video aren't though. More and more people want a hybrid camera and video demands are ramping. I'm sure Samsung could make a sensor to fit whatever color requirements Canon has, that also meets the current market demands for video, speed and data throughput.
