Re: How to read that table.

I am slightly dyslexic when I see lots of similar words next to each other, they get jumbled up. I hate the terminology Canon use in this respect. Reading that page to me looks like:
AFAEAFLockAELockAELockAFAFAEAFLockLock........... Essentially it's a blur to me.
I don't understand what they are trying to represent. I get that the function before the '/' is what the half-pressed shutter button will to, and after the '/' is what the * button will do. But how is AE Lock/AF different to AE/AF ? The first option suggests the shutter button will lock AE, but the second option (AE/AF) does what? If it locks the exposure then it's the same as AE Lock. If it doesn't then why mention AE at all - it should be
[do nothing]/AF
in Canon's terminology.
The key to "Set 'eye' / * Function."
The position before the / is what half-press of the shutter button initiates. The position following the / is what press of the * (AEL) button does.
- AF / AE Lock: the default for each. Half-press of the shutter for autofocus (and initiates metering), press * for AEL.
- AE Lock / AF: The reverse of the default. Half-press of the shutter simultaneously meters and locks auto exposure, press * to autofocus.
- AF / AF Lock, no AE Lock: half-press of shutter initiates AF (and metering), press * to lock focus, neither button will lock exposure.
- AE / AF, no AE Lock: half-press of shutter initiates auto exposure metering, * initiates AF, neither button will lock exposure.
Thanks Mr Lemming, this is so good I'm going to print it and keep it if that's OK with you.
Could I ask another question - sorry I could test this but I'm lazy
In modes 1, 3 and 4 above where the shutter button does *not* lock exposure, how does exposure measurement interact with continuous shooting? Is the exposure locked at the first frame (even though, as stated, you haven't specified to lock exposure at all) - in other words measure, shoot, shoot, shoot...? Or does it measure, shoot, measure, shoot...?
Thanks
