Has anyone tried using 3 or more Nikon SB-R200 flash units? Have 2, but know that my SU-800 can control more ... but is a 3rd or 4th actually useful?

Niels

I own and use up to 4; no problem.

Curious Bill, how you have used 3 or 4 flashes? Michael's usage is more in line with my expectations:

I own and have used 3 -- Two on the ring and the third as a handheld "fill." It's a bit more controllable than using a reflector, but I haven't used it a lot and the results are only slightly better. (That's probably due to a misadjusted nut behind the finder.)

Yes, typically two on the ring and one or two elsewhere.
Don't forget, there are three Groups: A, B, and C that can be adjusted separately.

Thanks Bill,

Was experimenting yesterday w. the 2 that I have, but forgot even w. 2 that's atypical for my use.

Just don't forget that even with "only" two they can be in different Groups which can be quite useful.

Yes, even in manual mode, this allows setting different power levels on each flash from the SU-800.
