Well this definitely makes me really consider the PEN. Do you suppose a new PEN F will come out any time in the next year?

It is possible. But IMO not likely. And if it does, it is likely to be more expensive.

One nice thing about the GX9 is that it's brand new, so it's more future-proofed.

That depends how you define "future-proof".

Technologically, any camera will be obsolete 3 years after it's release

Technically, digital cameras have a life expectancy of around 6 to 8 years or around 70 to 100,000 shots.

But.....

The Pen-F is one of the very rare current cameras, that have a "timeless design". A design that in many photographers awakens sentimental emotions. Once worn out and obsolete, people will still hang on to it - even if only as display in the living room. For this reason alone, I expect a Pen-F to retain value considerably better and longer than other modern cameras.

I think I need to get my hands on a PEN F to really understand it myself.

What is the meaning of a timeless design? Oxford Dictionary defines "timeless" as "not affected by the passage of time or changes in fashion". The phrase is generally used to mean elegant: pleasingly graceful and stylish in appearance or manner....

Go to a shop and have a look at the Pen-F. Sometimes you have to allow your heart to make the final decision. You only live once. Chances are, your main worry will be "black or silver?" I am left-eyed, so reason told me a camera with left side viewfinder is not ideal for me. Well, I walked out of the shop with a black Pen-F. No regrets, I love it.
