As others have noted, the bad press is because many assumed the GX9 would be a successor to the GX8, which it is not. The GX9 is a successor to the GX85.

Coming in late helps curb these issues for me. It took some figuring out, but I made sense of how the GX9 fit. Only the lack of weather sealing is a disappointment, but even this I won’t need to much. Just would be nice to know it’s there.

I am a GX85 user and have found it to be a great camera. Just the right size for me, well built, fast autofocus, excellent IBIS. I love the tilting screen (I don't like fully articulated).

I am not sure where you've seen information that Panasonic is not well regarded! They make high quality products. I've owned a number of compact Lumix cameras and they've never failed me.

Maarten Heilbron told me in a YouTube comment that Panasonic’s star was waning. He didn’t even review the GX9. Gordon Laing focused on the negatives in his review and never mentions it as an alternative in his podcasts, likely because he doesn’t like RF stlyle cameras (but he always mentions the a6300). Chris Nichols said mostly critical things as well, even though he really liked the GX85. But in general, all these guys don’t love MFT. Thank god for David Thorpe and Mirror Lessons.

As many people note, the GX85 and GX9 viewfinder is a weak point. It's not great but it's usable and as most of my shooting is done with the tilting rear screen, it isn't really an issue for me.

I actually love the viewfinder! I think the size is great and I have no problem with the tech inside. I tilt it constantly.

The GX9 is well priced and an excellent choice. I think you'll love it.
