Re: Pen F vs GX9

I read above that you ordered the Panasonic. Just the same, some thoughts -

Here's a 9-month old thread, same topic. Might be of interest -

I saw this! Was fun to read. I guess this guy decided to keep his PEN F.  But good points were made. I decided I'd try out my own post, and I'm happy I did.

I'm not sure what you mean by no one singing praises on the GX9, or that Panasonic is not well-regarded. Aside from reviews, I put value on opinions only from owners. Fanboys will be happy to tell you what's wrong with other brands b/c they're, well, fanboys. Every report I read from GX9 owners is very positive. Certainly Pen F owners all seem happy with their purchase as well.

You are right - it's great to hear the actual opinions of users. I had been binging reviews online and youtube who were all lukewarm about the GX9. Cameralabs and The Camera Store and Mirror Lessons all seemed to like it well enough, but couldn't fully endorse it because of seeming biases. Marteen Heilbron and others didn't even review it. Even David Thorpe mentioned "damning with faint praise" 😆 But I think these guys either already love their GX80, or just don't like rangefinder bodies very much.

Many of those guys weren't so keen on the PEN F either, really focusing on its failings. But there were enough intriguing things about it that I've kept it in mind.

I finally made a profile on this site and it's terrific to hear more than just these dozen opinions

I've owned 7 Panasonic cameras and 2 Olympics. All very capable. One serious difference between the Pen and the GX9 is the LCD - one tilts up & down and the other one doesn't work for me. Some things are deal-breakers. Good luck. Have fun.

Yes, I thought the tilting viewfinder was silly and gimmicky when I saw it online, but I tried it out and I actually love it! I point my camera upward a lot, and this TLR posture really works for me. Thanks for the comment!
