Do different focal length of lenses affect how you appear in photos

I saw a video on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-ZaAbw0E2A

This video is showing that different focal length influences the appearance of a photo so I am worried that which focal length will show a true appearance of a face.

but then I was thinking that good lens manufacturer uses compound element (lens) to remove (neutralize) un-natural appearance of a face/ object or in other word distortion of wide angle effect.

But I am not sure about this so just want to confirm on this forum from experts. That this distortion on different focal length really happens or good manufacturer remove it by using compound element so do I need to worry on that while buying a lens (zoom and prime.)
