A camera owner inspecting a D800 body for a chassis crack

That camera owner being me, one who has never disassembled a camera body, not even in the slightest. The camera body in question is a D800.

I read a 14 page thread over on Fred Miranda about the odyssey a woman had with her "never dropped, never abused" D800 that had focus problems. To make that story as short as possible, Nikon Service at first discovered a crack in her D800 chassis near the tripod hole, refused to fix it under warranty/eventually did relent and replaced the chassis (that thread here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1342802/0

My specific question is:  how easy is it to actually remove the body at the bottom to see the area of the chassis in question?  A few screws, slide it off, inspect, put back?  It couldn't be that simple.
