Not bad for ISO 9000 on D500!

I don’t mind motion blurr in the wings. I always seem to get it on the head in the one shot where the wings are in the perfect position or the shot just in front of me as apposed to the one just passed me. At 1/3200 I know 9 out of 10 are sharp. Also I try to be as close to the birds flight as possible to reduce cropping as much as I can which increases the shutter speed needed. When using full frame I usually shoot at 1/2000. The DX crop works against lower shutter speeds. This is all personal taste as I’ve seen many shots at lower speeds that look awesome.

My try:

Great Bob! Definitely an improvement over the original AND my redo. What is your process, if you don't mind me asking?

Here is a second try on a similar shot from another day. These eagles are tough in that they leave the nest just after sunrise and are gone for most of the day. This shot is at 1/5600 and seems to be a little better in terms of edge sharpness. Also, I was able to get away with 1/2500 shutter speed. If I could get this same shot in the late afternoon with the sun at my back would be awesome!

Another really nice capture! So great for you to have the opportunity to photograph this beautiful bird a number of times on different days. "Being there" repeatedly will eventually yield the perfect shot. I want to see it when you get it!
