To anyone who is interested in small objects or in the natural world: definitely buy a macro lens if you don't have one already. My first one was a true revelation for me and added a whole new chapter to my photography. Plus, a well chosen macro lens doubles as a telephoto prime.

I have been thinking about a macro lens.

Ever since I decided my extension tubes don't really cut it for macro work.

But 1) there are a few to chose from and 2) I am feeling stingy, they seem quite a reasonable price even used!

Used and older lenses are definitely cheaper. Though at longer focal lengths the VR and AF-S are welcome additions. I picked up a used 105mm from Henry's in Canada, but the focus ring was so terribly sticky I had to send it back.
