Nikon 300mmf2.8. Fl version..............

curious if anyone has any views on Nikon replacing the current 300mmf2.8 vrII. The current lens is a fantastic performer but is eight or nine years old, most of the other Nikon long primes have been updated and they enjoy lighter weight and improved optical performance generally. I know these new versions carry a higher price tag but there are always those who are always happy to upgrade to the latest spec. I do own the current version and it is fantastic especially it's uniform sharpness which extends right across the frame , less weight especially rearward weight distribution could be welcome though. Any thoughts or insight into a new fl version would be interesting, thanks.

P.S I've just read that Nikon applied for a patent for the above lens a couple of years ago, I wonder if this means an FL version of the 300mm f2.8 is in development!
