Help identifying new piece that I need for drop stand tripod?

I have a 7-foot Savage Drop Stand. It has a reversible 1/4"-20 to 3/8" stud adapter is usable on either the top or side of the stand. I am able to connect a camcorder to the 1/4" stud, but I don't have any way to pan the camera as I do on a traditional camera tripod. I looked online but can't find information on what parts to add to a drop stand to turn it into a (better) tripod. (I know it lacks the balance and stability of a real tripod.)

This is the stand. The reversible 1/4"-20 to 3/8" stud adapter (in photo below) goes inside. Can I buy something else to stick inside the hole, that will then allow me to add the piece that includes a pan handle, quick release plate, etc. Basically, how do I turn it into a traditional-looking tripod.

The 1/4"-20 to 3/8" stud adapter. Will I need to use this or will the mystery part take it's place?
