Nature photography and the loud shutter/mirror .. ?

Just want to gather some opinions on this.

I have a Nikon D800 which I love, but I think perhaps its biggest disadvantage is its loud action. I have been focussing silently on some wild critter or other and then hit the shutter release at which point there is a clack clack clack and when the dust has cleared - no more wild animals! They have all scarpered.

If I am far enough away it does not seem to matter, but if I have gotten close, perhaps to an animal which isn't used to humans, then it seems to be an issue.

What do you think? and do you all have silent cameras?
