Sony A9 missing focus in low light

Good morning everyone.

I wanted to ask you some suggestion about the best settings to achieve focus in low light.

I was at a birthday, very very dark situation, with only some lights to bright the scene. I was with my flash (F43M) mounted on the camera and the 24-70 GM.

With my old Nikon bodies, the flash projected the ir grid on the subjects and I was able to achieve focus everytime.  The Sony only has the af assist, that is partially blocked by the bulkiness of the GM

That day I noticed that many shots were completely out of focus. Luckily in burst mode at least one of them was in focus, so I was safe.

But mostly of the time, the result was the one that you see in the photo.

So, which are, according to you the best settings to use in low light situations?

Thanks in advance.
