That does really stick out there.  The complaint of the focusing distance pointed out that this distance is from object to sensor--not object to lens.  As far as this lens sticks out at the closer focusing distances it does look like a bit of an issue.

I've used my old 50mm Minolta macro for years now and the way it doesn't extend when focusing close helps a lot for very close focusing.  The issue with it is the need to get close to get magnification for flowers, insects, etc. which the 70mm would help with some.

As no one near where I live stocks these lenses of E mount I guess I need to try it with a Canon or Nikon at a local store to get an idea of how this would work for me.  I sure like that price though!!!
