DR comparison

Michael the Maven's DR comparison for the recent mirrorless cameras:

And a screenshot from there @ base ISO (except Fuji, where its base ISO is 200 & is APS-C):

These are based on raws. I think the Z7 is the best balance of this lot. It would also be interesting to see the Z6.

Notes (though it's hard to determine causality, since we don't know exactly what was applied to the images, such as noise reduction):

  • The A7Riii has some pretty horrible artifacts at base ISO around the numbers.  Looks like ruffled peacock feathers.
  • There is slight banding in the Z7 (as well as the Canon). In this example, it seems to first appear after "30," which is 10-stops below the saturated exposure (0 should equal clipping, and each number represents 1/3 stop darker). Also exhibits more color noise. Easy enough to fix with NR algorithms.
  • The Canon also has slight banding, but also striping--and the lenses seem to be exhibiting CA towards the edges.

Overall, good comparative indications for Nikon shooters interested in single-shot DR at base ISO.
