It's obvious you don't know much about Huawei phones. There are 5 firmware upgrades since May. And Huawei is already doing beta testing on Android Pie and expect to roll out soon for the P20 series.
I've had Pie for over a month now. That's a hell of a lot better than "soon". I know plenty about Huawei. I know they still have that POS EMUI skin. I know they aren't going to support the p20 with 3 years of timely updates and monthly security patches. Hell the first OS update is already a month and a half late. How fast you think they'll ship Android 10 next fall? Will they even bother? How many of their last year's phones have Pie now? How many of those have a snowballs chance of seeing 10 in the same calendar year it releases?
And compared to what Apple does? Apple's on a different level when it comes to support. My 2014 iPad will be getting iOS 12 today, day of release. It's 4 years old and still getting updates on day of release. Nobody can touch that. It'll get iOS 13 next year as well. I don't like iOS as an OS but Apple supports their products at an unparalleled level.
Yes Apple will always have that edge in terms of updates etc, but seriously, the benefits of Android in terms of flexibility, customisation, and way better cameras far outweigh the updates issue. I've been on Android for 2 years and have never had any update related issues. But I hated my iPhone 7 which I couldn't do that or this, or had to connect to iTunes first, cant have widgets, etc. I understand the benefits of a 'closed' system, and for some that's cool, but I want flexibility to do what I want, not be bound by the limitations of my phone... irrespective if there are some perceived benefits to that control by Apple. I will never go back until Apple put some of the control in the hands of the owners, not just the OS.
I don't disagree and I prefer Android when it's on a Google device. I'm not an Apple fan boy; I just have a huge amount of respect for the security and longevity of an iOS device. My tablet is an iPad mini 4 solely because it has no Android competitor matching my requirements (I wanted 300+ ppi "print" resolution, an LTE radio, security updates and a color accurate screen). My personal phone is a Google Pixel 2. Google promises 3 years of updates and I hope they'll go for more. But I'd buy an iPhone and live with its limitations rather than get a Samsung or Huawei (unless of course they were Android One devices). My phone is more than a camera it's also got enough access to my personal information to effectively steal my identity. Updates to patch vulnerabilities are paramount. I can't accept updates coming months or sometimes over a year late and no updates past the phone's 2nd birthday.
I'm on a Samsung S8+ and have had security patch updates monthly (or maybe 6 weekly) since I got it... no issues with updates at all. I know for the more lower end and mid tier phones the updates are less frequent though.
And what version of Android are you running? Latest and greatest?
The reality is that Apple continues to update a 2013 phone, the iPhone 5S. It runs IOS 12 day of release. This device was a contemporary of the Samsung S4. When's the last time it saw an update? Google is just now going to discontinue support for the 2015 Nexus 5x, which was a contemporary of the S6. When was the S6's last update?
I'm running the latest version of Oreo, got my Nov security patch a few weeks ago...
Don't really care about 4 year old phones, I know that some people do, and everyone knows that Apple with its closed and much smaller eco-system has updates for its older devices, which is great.
Just remember, not everyone is obsessed with security updates, In 10 years of Android I have NEVER had a single security issue, not one. With Google background app scanning that came into play a few years back things are pretty solid. But some people prefer the way Apple does stuff, fine, I had a iPhone 7 for 2 months and it frustrated the hell out of me, limited customisation options, no homescreen widgets (I love widgets, see pictures attached), the flexibility with Android is way beyond what Apple offers, and that's important to me, and the Android camera's are better, I do quite a bit of photography and the SOOC jpegs are way less processed, though Apple seems to be moving in the right direction, eventually in terms of processing.
But yes, I fully get that Apple offers things that Android does not, but those things are not exactly a pull factor for me.
