If you've got it, think it might come in useful but will have somewhere secure to store it if you decide not to use it that day then take it! What use is a pro lens say at home in a drawer?

Reading this thread makes me realise just how far removed I am from the majority of the members on here! I'm looking to head out to Africa late this or early next month and I don't even know where I'm going, let alone worrying about what gear to take!

My longest lens is the 35-100 Pany so I'm looking for a tele lens and was trying to decide if the 100-300 ii was worth the extra size, weight and cost over the Oly 75-300 ii. I decided it wasn't - yes it's an all round superior lens but when weighing up the pro's and cons, it's not worth it for me. I'm not going to Africa for 2 weeks, I'm going for 6-8 months and that will probably cost me the same as some of your guys will spend in 14 days. I've got some pretty decent shots from my travels but I'm unlikely to do more than blow them up to a decent size to display for my own enjoyment, so as much as I'd LOVE to blow a load of money on gear, I'm learning to reign myself in and be realistic! That said, I'm still toying with finding a used Oly 9-18!

Photography is a fabulous pass time but don't get too hung up on what gear you've got to enjoy what's going on around you while you've got your gear out!
