Yeah, if you step down to f/4 then you lose the advantage. That said, wide angle lenses tend to have huge depth of field.

Using the DOF calculator, 8mm f/2.8 MFT lens focused at the hyperfocal distance of about 5 ft, the DOF extends from about 2.5 ft to infinity.

So it largely depends on how close you intend your subject to be.
