Hi Jake,

The price for the Oly 9-18mm is around 510 usd and for 772 usd the 7-14mm Pany aspherical lens is available (https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0028Y5GKK/?coliid=I19X4C2M57Z2H1&colid=2ZXG1GED9D77Z&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it).

Is it worth opting for that ? 2mm extra on the wide end gives a big width difference right ? Its also rectilinear i think. Will the image quality for video be better on the pany lens ?

Yes 2mm extra on 7mm vs 9mm makes a big difference. The diagonal FOV for 7mm is 114 degrees vs 100 degress for 9mm. Yes both lenses are rectilinear.

You can find a comparison here:

The 7-14mm is a much bigger lens (has built in hood and a bulbous front element) and it does not have a front filter thread (so if you need to add a filter, you have to hack a solution). On Olympus bodies it is known to have purple blob flare (although does not appear to be the case for Panasonic bodies). However, it does have better corners and IQ than the 9-18mm and has a constant max aperture of f/4 (vs variable for 9-18mm).

You may also want to consider the 8-18mm f/2.8-4 if you are going to spend that much. The f/2.8 would be useful for shooting indoors when there is less light.
