The problem is semantics.  In Canon-speak, "Continuous AF" only applies to the autofocus function that occurs before the shutter is pressed (or half-pressed).

Ever since the first M came out, the standard advice on this forum has been to disable continuous AF as soon as you take the camera out of the box.

It drove me crazy, so I disabled Continuous AF ASAP.  I now only use it those times that I'm shooting macros using autofocus.

For landscapes, indeed One Shot AF can be used.  It's especially useful for "Focus and Recompose."

However, like you, I generally shoot in Servo AF mode with Back Button AF.  It has several advantages over using the shutter button for AF (whether in One Shot or Servo).
