Hello

I am considering adding a second body into my fuji kit.

Is X-Pro1 worth purchasing in 2018? Alternatively, I could get an X-E2 for cheaper. But it's not as cool as an X-Pro1.

Thanks.

For a long time I was a very vocal fan of the X-Pro1 and would recommend it to (almost) anyone.  It is still a great camera in many ways, the jpegs are beautiful and unique, the handling is great, it's lovely to look at, and the hybrid finder is just a great thing to have.

But... ultimately everything that people say about the autofocus and general performance is true, it was never quite up to par, and I recently found that - having gotten used to the performance of more modern Fujis - I just couldn't go back to the XP1, not even for those jpegs.

And the thing about the autofocus not really being good enough is that, it isn't really a great camera for manual focus either.  Unless you just rely on zone focussing, manual focus only works at all in the EVF, and the EVF is pretty poor and not well suited for MF either, with only white peaking, relatively low resolution and a lot of lag.

If you're only going to be using it in good light, on contrasty scenes, with very little movement, go ahead and get the XP1 - it's great.

For anyone else - save up for the X-Pro2.  It's so much more camera for the money.  It brings very competent AF, a manual focus aid you can actually use in the optical finder, and at least a hundred other refinements that make it the camera the XP1 really wanted to be.
