It does work with IS, just not the latest version, the Dual IS.

but on the other hand, I'm on a tight budget and it will still be a huge improvement over the GX1.

One thing I really like about the GX1, the Fuji X100 and the future GX7 is the form factor. Put a pancake lens on one of those and (in the winter) put it in your jacket pocket and you've got a really decent camera for random street photography or something to keep you interested during family outings.

If you think along these lines, get a P 1,7/20mm or an O 1,8/25 and forget cheap zoom lenses. There won't be much, you can't do with these excellent primes! - And since they are fast, you won't need IS that much: F3,5 at 1/15s is the same as F1,7 at 1/60s.
