The Sigma 500mm F4 DG OS HSM Sport - sample images
4

Earlier on another thread I promised to post examples of some work with this relatively new, superbly sharp, high performance telephoto lens from Sigma.

I have taken some time and care to fine-focus adjust this lens to the D500 and using the Sigma USB Dock to program the lens fine-focus adjustments and also to setup the 2 programmable custom settings C1 and C2.  Currently I have C1 set to fast-focus, focus limited to 6 metres to infinity and C2 set to fast-focus, focus limited to 12 metres to infinity.

All the examples below were taken with my D500 with just the bare lens at 500mm, most hand-held.   First a few seabirds:

Eider ducks and drakes flypast - nice subject isolation despite use of F8

An adult Pomarine Skua

A Fulmar Petrel

Those 3 images above are all crops from the full size image.

A Herring Gull - check out that eye!

Now, for non-birders, some animal shots:

Horsing about!

Maybe they are in love!

Both the above Horse shots are tight crops from the full image.

A Hedgehog on my back lawn, quite close range

Close-up crop of a nice little doggie  (I think he's a Border Terrier)

So those were all hand-held, just the bare lens, no tele-converter.

Next I'll follow-up with some examples taken using the lens + TC-1401 converter.
